Terminology...
Adware: Embeds advertisements on your computer and collects marketing information about your Web habits, with your permission(often in fine print). It pops up windows on your screen, takes over your home page, or dirverts you to Web sites you don't want to visit.
Spyware: Moniters your Web surfing habits and sends the data to another party, generally for advertising purposes. It may auto install without warning you or log every keystroke.
Virus: Piggybacks on Email attachments, programs on disks or files copied from servers.
Trojan Horse: Often disguised as a harmless application, it can stealthly invade your PC and pave the way for outsiders to take it over.
Worm: Resides in a computer's memory and replicates, actively looking for security holes in software and infecting other machines over a network. Worms are more dangerous than viruses because they rely less, or not at all, on users to spread.
Dialer: Seizes control of modems and can make pricy calls, often to adult services or overseas.
Malware: Catch-all term to describe malicious software.
